Chief Business Officer

Thomas Bonnington brings more than two decades of leadership in youth services, nonprofit management, and federal program oversight to his role as Chief Business Officer at J Bar J Youth Services. 

Before joining J Bar J, Thomas served as a Federal Project Officer and Program Specialist with the U.S. Administration for Children and Families’ Family and Youth Services Bureau. In that role, he managed the programmatic and technical aspects of Runaway and Homeless Youth grants across the Northwest, provided training and technical assistance to grantees, and acted as a regional subject matter expert on youth services. Earlier in his career, he directed the Toledo Lucas County Homelessness Board, where he oversaw HUD funding for more than 30 contracts, strengthened community collaboration, and drove measurable improvements in housing outcomes. 

Thomas’s career is grounded in a lifelong commitment to serving vulnerable populations, with experience ranging from victim advocacy and mental health counseling to community action leadership. A U.S. Navy veteran and past correction officer, he also brings extensive leadership and management training from his years of military and law enforcement service. He holds a Master’s degree in Human Services from Bellevue University and a Bachelor’s degree in Human Services from Western Washington University

Thomas has been married for over 26 years and has 4 children and 4 stepchildren that keep him busy with grandkids and great grandkids. He also enjoys off-roading, camping, boating, sailing, traveling, and numerous other activities.
