Director of Marketing

Position: Director of Marketing and Communications

Summary:

The Director of Marketing and Communications leads agencywide marketing, communications, public relations, brand visibility, digital presence, media relations, and storytelling. The role serves as J Bar J Youth Services’ central marketing lead, coordinating with executive leadership, programs, development, grants, and administrative teams to strengthen public understanding of the agency and its full continuum of services.

This position combines strategic marketing judgment with an advanced AI-assisted production model. The Director develops the systems, standards, templates, and creative assets needed to deliver accurate, confidential, mission-aligned, and brand-consistent communications efficiently across channels.

Duties:

Marketing Strategy and Brand Leadership
· Develop and implement an agencywide marketing strategy supporting mission, programs, fundraising, recruitment, public education, and community visibility
· Translate organizational priorities into measurable campaigns, annual and quarterly plans, calendars, budgets, audience strategies, and calls to action.
· Lead market and audience research; use data and critical thinking to assess positioning, opportunities, trends, and message effectiveness.
· Establish and maintain agency brand identity, voice, tone, visual standards, messaging frameworks, templates, and reusable assets across all public-facing materials.

AI-Assisted Marketing Systems and Production

· Design and manage an AI-assisted marketing workflow that expands capacity while preserving human oversight, strategic judgment, creativity, accuracy, confidentiality, and quality control.
· Use Claude Opus 5 or Claude Fable 5 as an integrated strategy and production tool for research, campaigns, copy, email, SEO, paid media, social content, graphics and layout concepts, templates, reporting, and website or landing-page code.
· Maintain structured brand knowledge and human-review standards for accuracy, tone, trauma-informed language, cultural responsiveness, consent, equity, and brand alignment.
· Protect youth/client, donor, personnel, and other sensitive information from inappropriate entry into AI systems; review, edit, fact-check, and approve AI-assisted work before release.

Integrated Digital Marketing and Content

· Oversee agency and program websites, landing pages, SEO, email marketing, social media, content calendars, and paid digital campaigns.
· Create audience-specific, cross-channel campaigns for awareness, donations, program participation, recruitment, events, and community engagement.
· Develop and maintain reusable email, social, web, and campaign templates; adapt core messages consistently across digital and print channels.
· Coordinate audience targeting, segmentation, calls to action, content scheduling, accessibility, consent, confidentiality, and brand compliance.

Creative Direction, Storytelling, and Public Relations

· Lead creative direction and production of presentations, advertisements, brochures, flyers, event materials, digital content, graphics, layouts, photography, video, and other marketing assets.
· Partner with programs to identify and appropriately share youth successes, alumni stories, outcomes, services, partnerships, donor impact, events, and community needs.
· Write or oversee compelling, accurate, mission-aligned content for web, email, social media, newsletters, press releases, donor communications, annual reports, advertising, and print.
· Build local and regional media relationships, pursue earned-media opportunities, and coordinate sensitive, high-profile, crisis, or reputation communications with executive leadership.

Analytics, Collaboration, and Continuous Improvement

· Establish measurable KPIs and prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports covering website, SEO, email, social media, paid media, campaigns, and content performance.
· Use analytics, research, and AI-assisted analysis to identify trends, improve targeting and creative, and adjust strategy based on results, leadership input, program needs, donor engagement, and community response.
· Coordinate priorities and messaging across executive leadership, program directors and managers, development, grants, administration, vendors, and community partners.
· Supervise assigned staff, contractors, interns, volunteers, and production resources; maintain organized libraries of approved brand and creative assets.

Qualifications:

Required

· Bachelor’s degree in marketing.
· 3-5 years of progressively responsible professional marketing experience, including strategy development and execution.
· Experience developing or managing a brand across multiple channels and building standards, templates, messaging frameworks, and reusable assets.
· Experience with audience and market research, integrated campaigns, websites, SEO, email, social media, paid media, content calendars, analytics, and AI-assisted marketing.
· Professional experience using Claude Opus 5 or Claude Fable 5 in a marketing department or comparable professional setting, including strategy, copy, creative concepts, templates, research, SEO, campaigns, and website or landing-page code.
· Strong strategic thinking, writing, project coordination, quality control, confidentiality, and brand-management skills.

Preferred
· Nonprofit or community-based marketing and fundraising communications.
· Public and media relations.
· WordPress or another content management system.
· Email automation, Google Analytics or similar tools, paid search, and paid social.
· Graphic design and creative-production platforms; photography, video, or multimedia production.
· Supervision of staff, contractors, interns, or project teams.

Physical Requirements: While performing the duties for the job, the employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee is occasionally required to sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
