A Safe Space to Breathe: Camden’s Story

There was a time when waking up meant wondering where I would safely sleep that night, as living with housing instability means survival takes over and holding onto a future feels almost impossible.

Before coming to The Loft, I was carrying the quiet, heavy burden of not having a steady place to call home, and just as I was trying to rebuild my life, a sudden, severe car accident threw everything into chaos, making management of my recovery, physical strain, and uncertainty all at once feel completely overwhelming. Finding a spot at The Loft gave me more than a roof—it gave me a safe space to breathe, allowing me to connect with staff at J Bar J Youth Services and the Cascade Youth & Family Center who truly listened and supported me to help regain my routine, navigate my accident recovery, and learn how to advocate for myself step-by-step.

Today, I view my journey through a completely different lens where I’ve grown stronger, learned to ask for help without shame, and rebuilt a solid foundation because the accident and housing challenges don’t define who I am—they just showed me how resilient I can be while looking ahead with real confidence and hope. None of this progress would have been possible without the generous donors who support J Bar J programs, as your support gives youth like me a real chance to recover, grow, and build a brighter path forward. Thank you.
